Vietnamese and American social cultures are generally 180 degrees different. There are so many different features that we can hardly accept, but there are also traits we should understand, to broaden our horizons and to integrate with a new environment. So the quickest way to integrate and overcome cultural shocks in the new learning environment is to equip yourself with the necessary knowledge of American culture, society and people. Talk about “American culture,” this is a huge topic and needs to spend a lot of time researching it. Within the limits of my writings, I would like to mention only a minor issue in “American culture” that is about the family, more specifically the relationship between family members.
