Within the human psyche

Within the human psyche, memory is a significant component. Memory is a vital part of our lives as we continue to get older. We utilize memory to recount different events that have occurred throughout our lives. I find the topic of memory to be an interesting topic of psychology. It is an integral part of the human mind, and we use memory for everything that we do in our lives. Memory is an essential part of human life. It allows us to apply meanings to different thoughts and helps us to decipher our environments around us. Having memory allows us to do things quicker, especially if the situation is familiar to us.
Memory is a process that consists of encoding, storing and retrieving. It is a constantly active system that allows us to retain information over time. Encoding is making mental representations of information to be placed into your memory. Storage is placing encoded information into permanent mental storage for later recollection. Retrieval is the process of getting or recalling information that has been placed into short-term or long-term storage. These three processes are very important within the
study of memory because they are used to help us remember certain events and information that we have learned and are continuing to learn.
I believe that memory is an important factor in life because I use it to learn, memorize and store information. Memory is also important because I apply it throughout my daily life, such as studying. When I am studying, I utilize effortful encoding. Effortful encoding is the transfer of information from short-term into long-term memory by consistently repeating and rehearsing information and making associations between new or old information. I find that using effortful encoding has helped immensely when I am studying for an exam. When I study for an exam, I read, memorize and rehearse the information from my notes, look through slides and flashcards. I also use a process called elaborative rehearsal which is, the involvement of using effort to actively make meaningful associations between new information that you wish to remember and old or familiar information that is stored within your long-term memory. By repeating the process of effortful encoding, I am can commit the information I have learned to my long-term memory and when I take an exam, I can remember the information. I also use a process called elaborative rehearsal which is, the involvement of using effort to actively make associations between new information that you wish to remember and old or familiar information that is stored within your long-term memory.
If we did not have memory, we wouldn’t remember any events that have occurred in our lives and we could not remember information that we have learned. Memory is a pivotal part of our lives because makes us who are. Our memory is a storage unit for all of our past events
